Precious Topaz is the birthstone for November, with Blue Topaz been the birthstone for December. It is now most commonly agreed that the name Topaz comes from Topazios, the old Greek name for a small island in the Red Sea, now called Zabargad. However some methodoligies believe that the word originated from an ancient Indian dialect Topas or Tapaz, meaning “fire.” This in our opinion just adds to the mystic of this wonderful Gemstone. This Gemstone comes in a multide of colours which is dependant on the crystal direction when it is formed in the earth.

Throughout the ages Topaz has had multiple meanings for different civilsations. The Greeks believed that Topaz gave them strength, where as in India, people believed that Topaz worn above the heart assured the wearer of long life, beauty and intelligence. Today Blue Topaz is the gem of the 4th wedding anniversary and Precious or Imperial Topaz is the gem of the 23rd wedding anniversary.
